This year Auto Expo 2016 was one of the most successful exhibitions held so far in the history of Auto Expos in terms of pulling of crowd and launches. This year Auto Expo witnessed launch of SUVs, performance cars, sedans, hybrids and two wheeler. Amongst the launches SUVs played a major role. SUVs palyed a major role in the Auto Expo as they ruled Auto Expo 2016 with maximum launches in this category.In the basic category there were launches from various car manufacturers:Maruti launched SUV variant Vitara Brezza ,Hyundai launched HND-14, Tata launched Nexon, Honda launched BR-V. Renault launched Renault Duster was given a facelift and a new AMT gearbox.Talking about premium category of SUVs, there were launches like the Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan and Nissan X-Trail, all of which will have a price bracket of Rs 17-30 lakh.Going on a higher level BMW launched the all-new, more spacious, front-wheel-drive BMW X1 and Mercedes Benz plush new GLC.Jeep has finally entered India with two modes Grand Cherokee and Wrangler Unlimited.
In the category of ultra-luxury SUVs, there’s the Range Rover SVAutobiography and Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² with its jacked-up suspension and yellow paint,that simply spits in the face of established luxury.
We have witnessed launches of compact sedans in Auto expo 2014 and so have we in Auto Expo 2016.
Volkswagen: launched Ameo which is the newer version of Polo. Ameo, has been developed for Indian market and is expected to be positioned as the premium offering in the segment and will be priced higher than rivals.
Tata: launched Tata’s Kite 5 which tops in its looks.
Chevrolet: launched Chevrolet Beat Essentia which is a sedan version of the next-gen Beat. But Essentia will be out in market in 2017.In the luxury segment Audi launched the India-bound latest A4, Jaguar launched the XE and showed the XF and BMW launched 7-series.
Performance cars are cars which are designed and constructed specially for speed. This Auto Expo witnessed nearly five performance cars ; Audi R8 V10 Plus, Nissan GT-R, Ford Mustang, Polo GTI and Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT. Audi R8 V10 Plus: launched at Rs 2.47 crore, with a 610bhp 5.2-litre V10 plunked on the back.Nissan GT-R: Nissan GT-R has entered Indian market which will arrive in India in September 2016.
Ford Mustang: Ford Mustang is the muscle car which is unveiled after 50 years from the first launch. The Ford Mustang is planned to be launched in the second quarter of 2016.
Polo GTI: Volkswagen has decided to launch the Polo GTI in India in three-door guise. Scheduled to go on sale in September 2016, the hot hatch is expected to be priced above the Rs 20-lakh.
Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT: Jeep’s entry into the market with the Grand Cherokee SRT, which features a potent 6.4-litre V8 petrol under the hood making 461bhp.
We have recently witnessed reforms being made to control the air pollution levels in Delhi. This makes it even more necessary for car manufacturers to come up with more ideas of Hybrid cars. The Auto Expo 2016 witnessed three of five hybrids unveiled.
Nissan X-Trail: The X-Trail, back after two years, will come in a hybrid-only configuration.Volkswagen Passat GTE and Honda Accord will be offered with hybrids as variants.Other than Hybrid, there was also electric cars launched at Auto Expo, Mahindra unveiled Formula E racecar and Verito which will go on sale in March 2016. Mahindra also showed a race specific version of the e2o Reva, called the e2o Sport.Toyota also unveiled all new generation of the original hybrid, the Toyota Prius.
Auto Expo 2016 had some notable launches in the category of two-wheelers.TVS, the Indian motorcycle manufacturer launched Akula 310 concept sportsbike, the RTR-based X21 and the Entorq 210 motor scooter.British café racers launched, the Triumph Bonneville and Bonneville T120. Priced approximately around Rs 6.9 lakh and Rs 8.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), respectively.Yamaha launched its middleweight street fighter sportsbike, the MT-09.It will be priced at around Rs 10.2 lakh.
Benelli unveiled the Tornado 302, the TRK 502, the BX 250 and the TNT T 135.Honda, the Japanese manufacturer unveiled Navi which is a combination of motorcycle and scooter. It also launched CRF1000L Africa Twin.
Aprilia launched the SR 150 scooter which is a combination of scooter and a motorcycle, but different from Navi is. It combines the performance of a motorcycle with the convenience of a scooter, and aggressive styling.BMW launched the BMW G 310 R. Through the launch of G 310 R is that it brings brilliant BMW technology to more people.UM made entry in India by launching Renegade Commando and the Renegade Sport S.Hero, Suzuki and Mahindra Two Wheelers were also launched at Auto Expo 2016.
