Arijit started his musical training in his house itself where he learnt music from his mother who used to sing and play Tabla. Since his school days, Arijit was very keen about music and surely wanted to pursue a career in this favorite liking of his. Arijit Singh first came on a show called Fame Gurukul in 2005, where he unfortunately lost in the finals. This was his first exposure to Bollywood’s Music industry. Arijit also worked as an assistant to music directors like Pritam Chakraborty, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar and Mithoon.
He recorded his first ever Bollywood song for “Murder 2” where he sang “Phir Mohabbat” composed by Mithoon. The song was initially recorded in 2009 but released in 2011. Later, he lent his voice to “Raabta” for Pritam in the movie “Agent Vinod”. His songs like “Duaa” from the movie “Shanghai”, and few more in Cocktail, Players and Barfi earned him popularity. But his reputation was mostly build up on the songs he sung for “Aashiqui 2”. “Tum Hi Ho” secured him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer. His other notable songs from 2013 were “Kabira”, “Har Kisi Ko”, “Dokha Dhadi “ and “Kabhi Jo Badal Barse”.
2014 was another very glorious year for Arijit Singh, where he delivered hits like “Tu Hi Hai Aashiqui”, “Mann Mast Magan”, “Suno Na Sangemarmar”, “Muskurane ki Wajah”, “JaiseMera Tu” and the evergreen “SAMJHAWAN”. “Samjhawan” took Arijit’s fame to another level. His voice was appreciated by many big singers and they were surely proud of his talent.
2015 was again a good year for Arijit. His songs like “Teri Meri Kahaani”, “Chunar”, “HumariAdhuri Kahaani”, “Agar Tum SaathHo”, “Gerua” all won the hearts of the people.
2016 started big for Arijit, with “Soch Na Sake” from the movie “Airlift”. He also sung for Amit Trivedi in “Fitoor”, and his recent number “Bolna” from Kapoor & Sons for music director Tanishk Bagchi. Arijit has also sung for upcoming movies like “Azhar”, “Sarbjit”, “One Night Stand”.
Arijit’s voice has a very rich texture, and depth which often allows him to bring loads of emotion to any song whether romantic, happy or sad. Arijit admits that he is a very big fan of Indian Classical music and usually prefers Classical music over Metal.
