Bollywood over these years has evolved with newer refreshing scripts and stories. There have been plenty interesting plots which have delivered crores of profits to the makers. Sometimes, the producers look for movie adaptations of certain books which have a very fascinating story line. This is also in some ways good for the author, as if his book is not that popular he will be getting fame by means of the movie. In Bollywood there are many great movies based on books written by Indian and Foreign authors, like “Guide”, “Devdas”, “3 Idiots”, “7 Khoon Maaf”, and more. Another such movie to hit the theatres in 2017, is “Half Girlfriend” based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel of the same name. The movie’s main star-cast includes Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor.
Chetan Bhagat is known for his dreamed novels which have sold millions and millions of copies. Bhagat has written 8 novels so far, out of which 4 have already been made into movies. His first book “Five Point Someone” was the basis for the super-hit movie “3 Idiots”. Movies like “Kai Po Che”, “Hello”, and “2 States” are based on his novels. Having written these stories, he moreover added to the screenplay of these movies as well. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Screenplay for the movie “Kai Po Che!”
Arjun Kapoor is set to play another lead role in a movie which is an adaptation of a Bhagat’s book. He played ‘Krish Malhotra’ in “2 States” opposite Alia Bhatt. Shraddha Kapoor is the main female lead for “Half Girlfriend” who is currently enjoying the success rate of her movie “Baaghi”. Shraddha has another movie lined up this year, “Rock On!! 2”.
“Half Girlfriend” is essentially based on a rural boy befriending a rich girl who happens to be a basketball player just like him. The boy demands a physical relationship with her but she refuses and leaves him never to see again until they met for an initiative for the betterment of his village. The story is a mix between drama and emotions, where in the end they meet up in New York. The book received negative reviews and is considered to be an ideal plot for a Bollywood Movie but failed as a novel. The tentative release date for the movie is 28th April, 2017.
