Government wanted the physical currency to come down and be substituted by digital currency: Jaitley

Recently, responding to a question Jaitley mentioned that the present government was intended upon replacing physical currency with digital payments.


He mentioned that out of 80 crore debit cards, 40 crore were being actively used at ATMs. Electronic wallet and digital transfer of Money was supposed to be promoted after the demonitization of big currency. He further asked the other state governments to contribute and collaborate for the same.

Jaitley also clamied that a expanding acceptance, infrastructure and conducting awareness campaign among people for a cash-less society are the short term goals which are enthusiastically worked upon to bring about a drastic significant change in our society.
And here cashless society is used to referred to the less investment in handling cash, transparency in payments and check on fake currency.
