Happy Mexico Independence Day 2016 History

Just like any other country Mexico Celebrations its day of emancipation on September 16 every year. Now let us take an insight into the whole struggle and hurdles Mexico went through to be a free nation.

Mexican Independence Day marks the beginning of the long war for independence, not the end as it is considered by the unknowns. Cinco de Mayo, on the other hand, celebrates Mexico’s victory in 1862 over the French army men sent by Napoleon III.

It is a very common misconception in the U.S. that Cinco de Mayo, May 5, is Mexican Independence Day. But actually, September 16 is the true date when Mexico got independent, which provides at least one more opportunity each year to celebrate for Mexico people.

The origins of Mexican Independence Day date from the year 1810, when Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, a small priest in the tiny town of Dolores, issued El Grito de Dolores, or “the Cry of Dolores.” Two years earlier, Napoleon’s search for Spain presented Mexico, and the rest of Spain’s American empire, with an opportunity to seek their independence from colonial rule, and Hidalgo helped with the plan to rise up against Spain.

Cuando el pueblo salta sus barreras, casi ningún esfuerzo es bastante poderoso para detenerlo

But since the day colonial officials learned the plot, Hidalgo had to act very quickly. The large army that was formed as a result was not trained well but was so determined. Led by Hidalgo and Ignacio Allende, a former captain in the Spanish army, it won various battles along the way to Mexico City but was eventually defeated in the month of January 1811.
