After China’s foreclose for India’s NSG membership bid, Japan has shown his support for India by adding “India’s presence in the Nuclear Suppliers Group will help in promoting non-proliferation worldwide.” This was the first official comment that India receives after China resists its bid for NSG membership in the Seoul NSG meeting. However, some of the top Japanese foreign ministries said they will continue their support for India to make its membership possible.
“We are hoping to continue work with India on the non-proliferation issues as we are hoping its membership of NSG will surely help in strengthening non-proliferation regime.”, Director-General of Press and Public Diplomacy under the Japan’s ministry of foreign affairs, Yasuhisa Kawamura added in a statement.
Kawamura stated that “China’s blockage for India’s NSG membership was quite obvious. Kawamura, who successfully served as the Japan’s Deputy Chief of Mission in Delhi a few years ago, also stated that “At present, Japan didn’t want to the public any statement on the consultations within NSG over this issue”.
