Pathankot, Punjab, 4th Jan’16: After 52 hours of the terrorist attack in Pathankot town in Punjab, the search and rescue operation is still running in full fledge by Indian Air Force (IAF). Gun fire could be heard in the area through out last night and this morning. According to the official sources, this is the part of the mopping operation that is going on in the area presently.
In an effort to tackle the terrorist attack, a full fledged mopping operation has been launched in the town. It is anticipated that the terrorists entered the region through the neighbouring country, Pakistan. NSG and Indian Army are presently carrying out the operations. The entire area has been cordoned off my army and para-military forces and several times IAF helicopters were spotted circling the town.
While four of the terrorists were killed by the army personals during Sunday’s gun fight, two of them continued firing at the military forces throughout the night. Seven security personals, among them one National Security Guard, one IAF Garud commando and five Defence Services Corps (DSC) personnel lost their lives during the combat.
“Combing operation continued (on Sunday). This operation is at the completion stage. The operation will continue till the whole air base has been cleared of any intruders,” J. S. Dhamoon, Air Commodore, the Air Officer Commanding (AOC) of the Pathankot Air Force Station stated to media.
