Smart Railway Stations to be Developed in Smart Cities

A Memorandum of Association (MoU) was signed by the Union Urban Development Ministry and the Indian Railways to develop smart Railway Stations in smart cities. With this smart Railway stations, they will no more be dirty and congested.

The Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said, “Railway stations and adjoining areas will be redeveloped on smart city lines for enhancing passenger amenities and easy access to stations. Optimal utilisation of land at railway stations, as a part of smart city development will also be ensured,” said Naidu.

The new smart Railway stations will all have witing halls, easy access, better passenger amenities, integrated public transport hub and many others too. However, the budget of this project is not decided yet.

The ministry will work together with state governments, municipal bodies and agencies like the National Building Construction Corporation (NBCC), to put unused railway land around stations to optimal use.
