Visaranai is Indian Official Oscar Entry

National Award-winning Tamil film Visanrai is India’s official entry in the Foreign Language Film Category at the Oscars next year.Visanrai was selected out of the 29 films that were in the race.

The Crime-thriller , produced by actor-filmmaker Dhanush, is written and directed by Vetrimaaran. The film is based on the novel Lock Up by M.Chandrakumar.

Visaranai revolves around how corruption and brutality of the police force could potentially ruin a common man’s life. The story is inspired by the life of Chandran who was brutally harassed in a prison in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh in 1983.

Awards and acknowledgments

It became the first Tamil film in 72 years to compete at the Venice International Film Festival. The film received rave reviews, even a standing ovation. It was also honored with ‘Cinema For Human Rights’ award.

The film has also bagged three National Awards, best Tamil feature film, best editing and best supporting actor.
